The Eurasian Spoonbill International Expert Group (ESIEG) is a network of researchers that focuses on the research and protection of this iconic waterbird species. The group meets every three years. The X. International Workshop was delayed one year, because of the restriction related to the pandemic; however, the group members met online in October 2021.
The X. International Workshop of the Eurasian Spoonbill Expert Group will be held in Zadar, Croatia, from 3 to 7 October 2020. It will be organised by the Croatian Society for Birds and Nature Protection;
Department of Biology from the University of JJ Strossmayer in Osijek, Croatia; Institute of Ornithology, CASA and ESIEG. The workshop provides a unique opportunity to strengthen connectivity between people involved in studying and managing wetlands for the conservation of spoonbills and associated waterbird populations. Our aim is to share information and build practical know-how about drivers of population regulation and ways to improve management effectiveness in habitat restoration. A special emphasis will be made to enhance capacity building within the network and focusing on stakeholders from North African and Eastern Mediterranean countries.
Oral presentations and posters will be organised into 4 sessions:
Session 1: Spoonbill population trends
Session 2: Tracking spoonbills
Session 3: Ecology and behaviour of spoonbills
Session 4: Threats to spoonbills and their habitats
As in the previous meetings, the implementation of the AEWA International Action Plan for the Eurasian Spoonbill will be evaluated.
The official language of the X International Spoonbill Workshop will be English. Further information including the Scientific Programme of the Workshop will be published and updated on Facebook:
